Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) has been a popular topic in the news over the last ten years. Research on this topic is extensive, as this tragic, progressive disease is currently untreatable. Although researchers have yet to discover a treatment for Alzheimer’s Disease, there may be a way to prevent this disease, and even reverse some of the effects of cognitive decline. A study published in the Alzheimer’s and Dementia journal examined the effects of fish oil supplement use on brain volume and cognitive function. The results of the study showed that fish oil supplement use was associated with a lower mean score on the Alzheimer’s Disease Assessment Scale, and a higher score on the Mini-Mental State Examination. Fish oil supplement use was also associated with lower levels of deterioration in the brain.
